Textile Art
Exploration
Introduction
I think I've always wanted to be a textile artist, though I thought it would have to wait until retirement. I would explore different media and techniques as a hobby, and somehow magically turn it all into professional art when I hit retirement age.
But in my 40’s, I’m starting to think differently. Why hold this title of textile artist up on a pedestal as something only future me can be?
So this is where I am going to explore the idea of becoming a textile artist now.
What being a textile artist means to me:
Practicing Skills
Like with any artist, being a textile artist means practicing skills. Not all work is toward a finished piece of art. Skills take practice; repetition.
Exploration
There also needs to be exploration. Trying new techniques or playing with new materials.
Visibility
Sharing my work. For me, taking on this identity of textile artist requires making my work publicly visible.
Selling
Lastly, making my work available for purchase.
